Program Overview

Learn To Teach & Become A Better Pilot
The Flight Instructor Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course is a requirement for any pilot that is considering a career pathway that involves teaching flight training, whether that be through practical aircraft training, flight simulator training, drone training or ground theory. A standard component of the Flight Instructor Rating (FIR), we also offer this PMI as a standalone course.
The PMI course doesn’t just give you the confidence to become a better teacher, it solidifies and strengthens the knowledge you have already gained as a pilot. Learning how to best teach the next generation of pilots is a skill that will make you a better pilot yourself.
Learn Wherever You Are
Our Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course is offered in 2 different delivery methods. This allows pilots to choose a study option that suits their location and other life commitments and get the most out of their training. Course options include:
1. Face to Face: Scheduled group classes taught at Learn To Fly’s state-of-the-art training facility in Melbourne, with another 3 additional instructor theory hours included.
2. Online Live: Scheduled group classes taught at Learn To Fly’s state-of-the-art training facility in Melbourne by highly experienced pilots and Flight Instructor trainers.

Our Graduate
Summer Russell
“Completing the PMI course allowed me to understand the fundamentals of why we learn and how to adapt techniques to suit a variety of students. This has allowed me to develop my own teaching style, which I will take with me throughout my career. LTF’s experienced instructors come from various aviation backgrounds, providing a unique perspective on topics that enhance understanding beyond just following a textbook, with a strong focus on creating a fun and supportive learning environment.” – Summer Russell, Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) Graduate
